Steps to the Design Process
1. PROGRAMMING PHASE
This phase is all about understanding your needs before any design work begins.
We will:
• Meet with you to discuss how you live and use the space
• Talk through your goals, priorities, timeline, and budget
• Review any existing plans, surveys, or inspiration you provide
• Visit the space or review site information if available
• Identify opportunities and constraints early
You will receive:
• A written project summary outlining scope, goals, and direction for approval
2. PROPOSAL PHASE
Once we understand the project, we outline the anticipated design and interior costs.
We will:
• Create a preliminary interior design budget
• Review the budget with you
• Adjust based on feedback
You will receive:
• A budget overview for approval before moving forward
3. CONCEPTUAL DESIGN PHASE
This is where the creative direction begins to take shape.
We will:
• Verify site conditions and measurements
• Develop preliminary floor plans and layouts
• Explore furniture placement and space planning
• Create an overall design concept and aesthetic direction
• Develop preliminary lighting and power plans
• Coordinate with consultants if required
You will receive:
• Conceptual layouts and drawings
• Initial design inspiration and direction
4. DESIGN DEVELOPMENT PHASE
In this phase, we refine the design and select all materials and furnishings.
We will:
• Select finishes, materials, lighting, furnishings, and fixtures
• Prepare sample boards and digital presentations
• Present selections for your review and approval
• Update the project budget based on final selections and contractor input
You will receive:
• Detailed design selections
• Finalized design budget for approval
5. CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS PHASE
Once the design is approved, we create detailed drawings used for pricing and construction.
We will:
• Prepare final floor plans and elevations
• Complete lighting, power, and reflected ceiling plans
• Create finish and fixture schedules
• Coordinate with architects and consultants
• Issue a final construction drawing set
You will receive:
• A complete construction document package ready for your contractor
6. CONSTRUCTION OBSERVATION PHASE
During construction, we help ensure the design is executed as planned.
We will:
• Review shop drawings and finish samples
• Visit the site as needed
• Answer contractor questions
• Monitor progress and design compliance
• Keep you informed throughout construction
